There Is No Magic

Surreal day in the life of Yara, a Syrian actress in Brazil who is traveling across the country with a theatre play. In Brasília, she encounters a floating rock, a moment that deeply unsettles her. The magical event stays with her; the boundaries between memory and performance, past and present, begin to blur. As she wanders through the city, an inevitable longing slowly grows within her for a homeland she can no longer return to.
Through various interviews and the observation of the rehearsal process of her theatre piece, we learn more about Yara’s past and her complicated relationship with her homeland.

『魔法は存在しない』

シリア人女優ヤラの、ブラジルでのある一日を描いたシュールな物語。演劇作品とともにブラジル各地を巡る彼女は、ブラジリアで空中に浮かぶ岩と遭遇し、深い動揺を覚える。その不思議な出来事は彼女の心に残り続け、記憶と演技、過去と現在の境界が次第に曖昧になっていく。街をさまようなかで、彼女のなかには、もはや帰ることのできない故郷への避けがたい思慕がゆっくりと募っていく。

インタビューや、彼女が出演する演劇作品のリハーサルを追うことで、ヤラの過去と、故郷との複雑な関係が少しずつ浮かび上がってくる。
